A Humble Friend

These people are what make getting up at 2:30 in the morning quite worth it.... also, we all wore our flour power shirts serendipitously on Christmas Eve. This is why we're fantastic.

MONKEY

After hour 12 of work, Erik and I went outside to write the word monkey in the snow. We did it because we had been at work for 12 hours straight, and still had at least 4 more to go. My ankles then became numb. It was worth it.

My Desk

At work, I spend several hours of the day standing by my sink (other people have desks at their jobs, I have a sink... lame or cool, you decide) and I decided to spruce it up with two of my favorite drawings that children drew to get free cookies from the bakery. The one on the left is really fabulous and the one on the right says "This is a copy of a real apple exactly." I love this. I think little Everett has a promising career in art forgery. bwahahaha. I love.

An Ode To My Room

This is my room. In my home. In Maryland. I've had the delightful pleasure of liking all of the rooms I have ever lived in (mostly) and each has said something so delightful about me in their own way. However, this one I have had the longest. Which means there is the most stuff. I understand why people like staying in one place, with all of their stuff packed into one house. It's convenient. All your stuff is right there. You never have to think, 'oh. I really want to wear my brown snake skin boots today, but I can't because they're in the United States and I'm in Switzerland.' Everything is just right there. My entire wardrobe, all my books, all my papers, all my pillows, all my stuff in the closet that I haven't looked at in years, all my pictures, all my maps... everything. But still, on I go. To other places. With other rooms. With much less stuff, but I like that too. It's just so nice knowing I can come back whenever I want to. And also at the same time knowing that one day I'll just leave, not come back, and that'll be okay.

Svizzera

"But in my dreams I still have hope, and in life, no safe retreat. If I have to hop all the way on one foot, damn it, I'll find a place I can claim as home."

5 Long Years Now

"Listen. Slide the weight from your shoulders and move forward. You are afraid you might forget, but you never will. You will forgive and remember. Think of the vine that curls from the small square plot that was once my heart. That is the only marker you need. Move on. Walk forward into the light."

I Didn't Make This...but..

I'm sort of in love with this artist. I found him through my fabulous brother and I really love it. You can find his stuff here. I know it's never too early to start collecting for my own future fantastically beautiful and artfully decorated casa, and I think some of these would be perfect. I cannot stress how important I think it is to have delightful pieces of art in the home and even more so once there are kiddos... Like The Prophet, which was given to me by my darling grandmother. I always was so intrigued by it whenever we went to her house and I'm ever so grateful that I'll get to take it to my own house someday. So, today why don't you consider the things you live amongst and ask yourself if it expresses, if it inspires, if it makes the space or the wall more than just an area in the house. And please, don't let your home become susceptible to the boringness of so so many houses today. Use your imaginations. [and don't have all matching black picture frames. ick.] That's all for today. Hopefully there will be something to photograph soon. :)

Someday...

... I have this dream in which I am a foxy art historian who acquired a beautiful accent while working on her PhD in the United Kingdom. In this dream I am embracing my independent-woman-pants (which look like absolutely anything Prof. Fassl would wear, tho my signature piece shall be the black button down shirt instead of the white) living in a beautiful house outside of a beautiful city on the ocean with a beautiful bernese mountain dog. Who's name is either Gatsby or Bailey. (Hm, maybe I should just get two!)

I keep telling my dad I want a bernese mountain puppy to help jump start this dream. However, when I mentioned how pricey these pups were he felt more inclined to want to get me either these or these. The first of which are just simply amazing and the second of which would help me channel Prof. Fassl's fabulous style. I do not hold my breath, however, I'm a big fan of hoping for the unlikely and believing beyond reason. :)

Sometimes my brother makes lobsters out of the challah bread. This lobster was delicious.

Granite Islands

...I don't have much to say about this one (as usual). But... I thought that there were some interesting shapes and textures in it. Yup.
